ERA Fail - Deceptive advertisement gone wrong
I sent this suggestion in to the Procter & Gamble people. My follow up number is #100605-001913.
Your twin pack of 2 - 100 Oz. bottles purchased at Sam’s Club has incorrect metrics. On the box it says, “15% MORE*”. The star at the bottom says, “*than 170oz.”
Now, while the 15% more sounds like you are getting a great deal, the advertisement is actually trying to illustrate basic math. The problem is, you even got the basic math wrong.
170 is 15% LESS than 200. 15% more than 170 is actually 195.5. The actual deceptive percentage you needed to use is approximately 17.647% MORE than 170, but that would look a little strange on the box.
Perhaps 100% more than 100 Oz. would work better. Or 33 1/3% more than 150 Oz. Or even 300% more than 50Oz. The product should fly off the shelf with that declaration of 7th grade mathematics.
